The Climates of Madagascar

The Climates of Madagascar

Madagascar enjoys an impressive diversity of climates that vary depending on the region of the island. The east coast experiences a humid tropical climate with heavy rainfall, lush vegetation, and warm temperatures all year round. This area is ideal for discovering the island’s rich wildlife and flora, especially in its dense forests and natural parks.

The central highlands enjoy a more temperate climate. Days are pleasant with moderate temperatures, while nights can be cool, especially during the austral winter. This region, where Antananarivo is located, is perfect for exploring rolling landscapes, terraced rice fields, and traditional villages that offer authentic Malagasy charm.

The south and southwest of Madagascar are characterized by a semi-arid to arid climate. Rainfall is scarce, and the landscapes turn into desert areas and typical spiny forests. These regions are particularly appreciated for their sunny beaches, turquoise lagoons, and spectacular sunsets, showing a completely different side of the island.
